Capturing the Magic: A Senior Graduation Photo Shoot
Graduation season is a time of celebration and new beginnings. As the lead photographer at Trilite Photography, I love capturing these special moments. Here is a look at a recent senior graduation photo shoot with Tavian, which includes a combination interview, video, and photo session, along with some tips to help you prepare for your own shoot. (*As a note every shoot is different)
The Perfect Outfit
Tavian wanted a basic look and did not want any flashy outfits. He decided on jeans and a sleek black shirt. Finally, he wore a college sweatshirt from his future school(Not Shown).
Tip: Bring multiple outfits if that makes you feel confident and comfortable. The key is for you to feel comfortable and relaxed and show your personality.
Posing with Purpose
We aimed to keep the posing simple and non-pressured, ensuring Tavian felt relaxed. We captured just enough posed shots to show his personality. The video captured some candid moments, along with the interview where Tavian shared his favorite high school memories and some future plans. This shoot was pretty basic, but these shoots can be as complexed or simple as you want them to be.
Tip: Mix posed shots with candid moments. Props like your cap, balls, instruments, or favorite books can add a personal touch.
Lighting the Way
We scheduled Tavian’s shoot a couple of hours before sunset, I wanted the sun in the background to give the photos a bright warm feeling even when were in the shade.
Tip: Early morning or late afternoon light works best for photos. We avoid harsh midday sun.
Making it Personal
We wanted to make Tavian’s session special with personal touches. We wanted to take film and photos on the basketball court, but he hurt his leg the day before the shoot.
Tip: Include elements that reflect your hobbies and interests. This makes the photos more meaningful.
The Final Flourish
After the shoot, the magic continues in the editing room. We enhance colors, adjust lighting, and add subtle retouches to create a polished yet natural look.
Conclusion
